Pinguins Bremerhaven were founded in 1974 and have spent most of their history in the lower tiers of Germany ice hockey. They first played in the DEL in the 2016/17 season and have played there since.
The club plays out of the Eisarena Bremerhaven located in the historic northern German port of Bremerhaven, which is part of Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. The club's full name - Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven is a nod to Bremerhaven's origin as a port for fishermen.
Bremerhaven qualified for the Champions Hockey League for the very first time in 2021/22 after an impressive domestic season and returned for a second season in 2024/25 where they finished 11th in the 24-team Regular Season before sweeping past 2023/24 CHL Finalists Skellefteå AIK in the Round of 16 to make the Quarter-Finals.
