The mighty ZSC Lions Zurich kept the European Trophy in Switzerland last night when they narrowly beat Swedish rivals Färjestad Karlstad to the European Club Champions title in front of a rocking crowd in Zurich's Swiss Life Arena.
Czech goaltender Šimon Hrubec played a huge role in yesterday's Final, stopping all but one of Färjestad's shots on net to end the final game of the 2024/25 season of Europe's biggest club ice hockey competition with a sparkling 97% Save Percentage. But it was a bittersweet night for the 33-year-old who explained that his uncle passed away earlier that day.
"My feelings are really mixed because my uncle passed away this morning, but regarding the game, I'm really happy for the win," he explained, "It means a lot for this city."
The star netminder was singled out by the Zurich fans in chants after lifting the Trophy, how did that feel?
"Yeah, that's why I'm here," he said, adding that he's "here to win the cups" as he tried to keep his composure after a very hard day full of contrasting events.
