Bílí Tygři Liberec host Frölunda Gothenburg in the fifth game for each team in this year’s Champions Hockey League Regular Season. This is the first CHL meeting between these teams since the Round of 16 back in 2017/18. That year, Liberec’s come-from-behind overtime win made them the only team to eliminate Frölunda between 2015 and 2020, when the Swedish club took four titles in five seasons. Liberec advanced as far as the Semi-Finals that year.
Liberec is bidding to return to the Playoffs for the first time since then this season, and to that end, have won their last two games and have five points from their first four games. They sit 15th, just above the cut-off line. Radan Lenc and Filip Sandberg are the team’s top two scorers so far with four points each – Lenc has four goals and Sandberg four assists. Liberec have been the CHL’s fourth-best face-off team, with of 55.07% record so far.
Defending champs Frölunda are eyeing another title run, and currently sit eighth in the standings with eight points. They have the CHL’s second-best powerplay at 33.33%. Defenceman Henrik Tömmernes leads the team offensively with six points and is also the team’s ice-time leader with 21:00 minutes per game on average. Samuel Fagemo is also a huge threat with five points, two powerplay goals and 16 shots on goal.
