- Both clubs enter following a victory in their previous contests
- The Swiss need more production from their top talent
- Växjö need consistency if they hope to come away with a win
The Växjö Lakers enter their contest against Genève-Servette coming off a 6-3 victory against Red Bull Salzburg, while the Swiss engineered a 1-0 win against Polish challengers GKS Tychy last time around in the Champions Hockey League.
Despite the victory, the Swiss have shown a falling off in recent games. After securing nine total goals between their first two tilts, they've only managed three total goals in their last two. Their play on special teams has also been suspect with Genève ranking 18th in PP conversion with just 14.29% while their PK has been mediocre at best, with 80.00% effectiveness.
If they hope to secure consecutive victories, the Swiss will need to get back to their scoring ways - that means continuing to get production from their top scorers in Jimmy Vesey (2G, 4A), Sakari Manninen (1G, 3A), and Jesse Puljujärvi (4A).
For the Swedes, their six-goal showing against Salzburg was their best to date. A three-goal first period was the highlight for Växjö, as they registered their second win of the season. But where this performance should have been a regular reminder of their ability, it was actually an outlier as up to this point, Växjö have had trouble consistently finding the net. For them to have any chance against a capable club in Genève, they'll have to prove their most recent outing wasn't just good luck and timing.
