- Scoreless opening frame
- Ronning: two assists for Berlin
- Klagenfurt's late push-back thanks to Hundertpfund
After a scoreless opening period, Eisbären Berlin managed to take control in the second with two goals before surviving KAC Klagenfurt’s late push-back attempt to secure a 2-1 victory over the Austrians, their fourth in a row in the 2026/27 season of the Champions Hockey League.
The opening frame witnessed a somewhat cautious start from both Berlin and Klagenfurt, with neither the Austrians nor the Germans able to break the deadlock. Special teams came into play on both sides. The teams were evenly matched, which was reflected in the balanced shots on goal, but the defenses of both clubs held firm, sending it at 0-0 into intermission.
The dynamic shifted in the second frame as Berlin took control of the game. Berlin continuously put pressure on Klagenfurt’s net. It finally paid off when Liam Kirk broke the ice to put Berlin ahead, assisted by Ty Ronning, who three minutes later set up Berlin’s Frederik Tiffels to double the lead.
Thomas Hundertpfund cut Berlin’s lead in half in the third to give Klagenfurt a lifeline. But that was as close the visitors would get, as Berlin held firm, denying Klagenfurt the equalizer, despite the Austrians really pushing to score. All three points for Berlin mean the reigning DEL champions move higher up the Regular Season Standings and into a better position for the upcoming CHL Playoffs.
