- The Swedes scored three in the second and one in the third period to secure the win
- Salzburg's defensive struggles continued
- Skellefteå's Oskar Vuollet tallied two goals on the night
Skellefteå AIK scored four back-to-back goals across the second and third periods to manufacture their fifth win of the season as they downed Red Bull Salzburg 4-2 in this Game Day 6 feature.
Salzburg's Dennis Eamon Robertson drew first blood when he wired home a one-timer from the point to 1-0 at 12:43 of the first period. Some smart passing from low-to-high found Robertson who teed it up and let it go past an out-of-position Jani Lampinen.
But then in the second, it was all Skellefteå as the Swedes powered their way to three goals in the span of eight minutes. Hjalmar Nilsén knotted the game at 1-1 when he tracked a pop-up puck and whacked it home for his first of the campaign, and then Oskar Vuollet gave the Swedes the lead on the powerplay when he put a bouncing puck past David Kickert at 28:56. Jonathan Davidsson engineered Skellefteå's third tally five minutes later when he jostled for possession at the top of the blue paint before sliding it home on the backhand.
The Swedes continued to build a mountain for Salzburg to climb in the third when Vuollet fluttered one past the Austrian netminder to make it 4-1 in favour of the hosts. While in the slot, the forward managed to kick the puck to his stick before wristing it in for his second of the night.
Salzburg eventually made good on cutting the deficit to two when Mario Huber registered his fifth of the season, but that would be it for the visitors' as the Swedes' defence did well to suffocate the Austrians' attempts from then on as Skellefteå cemented their third victory on home ice.
